One of our favourite trips, is fly fishing for indigenous yellowfish on the Orange River. It's a great way to see a little more of the country, and to experience the pull of these slabs of gold.

Fly fish for indigenous yellowfish on the Orange River. We love driving from our base in KwaNojoli (Somerset East), experiencing our beautiful country travelling northwards to the Orange River. If you are so inclined, we stop off at the Mountain Zebra National Park for a night, for a quick wildlife safari.

We fish for both largemouth and smallmouth yellowfish wading in the river. One should be mindful of the water levels, as the Hydro plant does affect the river during the course of the day. For this trip, a moderate proficiency in fly fishing and fly casting is required.

If you have limited time, and don't want to do the scenic route, the closest airport is Bloemfontein, which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from the waters. We'll arrange pick up and drop off.

Dress: Comfortable clothing, preferably long sleeve & long trousers. Warm / waterproof jacket is a must, even in summer.

Fitness Level: Moderate fitness level required.

Pack: Polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, warm jacket, waterproof jacket, hat, camera.
